Salamanders belong to the Salamandroidea family and belong to the class Amphibia. It's scientific name is Caudata. Chinese giant salamander is the largest amphibian. They can grow to be nearly 6 feet long and weigh around 140 pounds. Salamanders are also known as newts. Their skin lacks scales and is moist and smooth to the touch, except in newts of the Salamandroidea, which may have velvety or warty skin, wet to the touch. Originally, the salamander was believed to have an amazing ability: that it could survive fire, and some said it lived in fire.
